It’s date night, and even though my husband and I have been married for over 15 years, I still love to get dressed up when we go out. I want to look sexy and beautiful. Lace tights and a mini-dress feel perfect for a casual evening at the movies.
The last time lace tights were trendy I was in my early teens. I figured out fast that the best way to wear them was with a short skirt. My parents weren’t all that happy about that particular look when I was so young, so I had to wait for them to come back into fashion before I could test my theory.
A couple of years ago I noticed lace tights were returning but I wasn’t sure I could work them into my wardrobe. You see, mini-skirts are something of an issue for me. I don’t like showing a lot of bare leg anymore, though I had no problem with it when I was in my 20′s. I still like short skirts, and I think I can still pull it off, so a solution to the bare leg had to be found. I stumpled upon these capri-length lace tights at Target, and thought; “Oh! I think this will work with my black jersey dress.”
This dress, paired with capri-length tights or leggings, is a flattering mini-skirt option. It’s is one of those things that I never thought would look good on me, but I tried it on a whim and was happy to see that it hid a multitude of sins. If you haven’t considered a draped jersey dress yet, try one on! In the photo below you can see how it’s gathered at the waist and blouses out from there. The wrap top is also very flattering, though I do have to wear a camisole underneath.
I’ve worn this multi-chain necklace before on this blog, and probably will again and again and again. The purse I’ve had for years. I think it was my mother’s before it found it’s way to my closet so I have no idea how old it is. However, it goes to show you that what was once fashionable will always return at some point. You just have to be patient.

I am a big fan of jersey dresses. They are just so simple, but easy to dress up….

I love lace tights!!! You look hot. I think my days as a dancer and showgirl made me love fishnets and lace tights. I love this outfit…although I would wear this with boots instead of sandals. I love the feminine look of short skirt, lace tights mixed with a motorcycle boot or a high heel leather boot just under the knee. My husband loves this look (boots and lace) and definitely notices it each time I go for it;)

So funny I just saw a pair of lace leggings on a European blogger site and was thinking I really liked the look. That Rachel Roy dress is so great too, love the easy but sexy vibe!

ARGH I`m torn! On the one hand I want I want to cheer “Yay for 70s on top and 80s on the buttom” (perfect realisation!).
On the other hand I would have liked the outfit better if you had worn it with tights in high-heeled black pumps. I feel that the open shoes are “not dressy enough” for the luxurious look of the top & necklace.
(You still look fab though!)

Actually the whole outfit is pretty 80′s inspired (except for the shoes they’re strait out of the 90′s) Those low blousy dresses were all the rage in the early 80′s, but they were longer and usually included big shoulder pads.
As for the sandals, L.A. is a really casual place. I was really dressed up for this city! But I do think it would look great with tights and pumps as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Joy. The tights were not expensive. I think they were around $10 at Target! Of course there are nicer one’s available too…
The whole outfit’s great, except that I don’t think footless tights are very flattering: I think the outfit would have been amped-up even more with fully-footed tights. I know some people have an issue with footed tights and open-toed shoes, but it works, especially with a pattern like yours.
But yes, men love their women dressed-up!
