The excitement surrounding the success of the Missoni for Target line is still being discussed online and in my local paper, but like ripples in a pond the story is slowly dying down and being replaced by the buzz of new collaborations (Versace for H&M??!). A few short months ago women all over the U.S. stood in line at 8.a.m to get their hands on this well designed line of bold zig-zag clothing. Just because the madness has waned doesn’t mean we should squirrel away our fab new items that we worked so hard to get. We’ve got our Missoni clothes, now it’s time to make them ours!
In an earlier post on the subject of Missoni madness I told you that I didn’t quite make it to Target in time to throw myself into the throng of women tearing at the clothing display. Nothing was left on the shelves when I arrived at 8:20. Although I gave up pretty quickly, but my mother was not so easily defeated. After driving to three different Target stores in the Los Angeles area and finding nothing but a few infant garments, she decided to start looking around for returns. Later that month she was successful. I don’t think my mom ever found the tumblers she was looking for but she did find this little number for me. (She also found the Missoni nightgown I wore as a dress in this post.)
This dress is not the sort of thing I would have ever purchased for myself. It doesn’t show off my waist, but it does show off my arms, an area in which I lack confidence. Although I gravitate toward bold prints, zigzags would not be my first choice. Regardless of all this I love the dress. Sometimes the garments I think will look terrible look the best. (Certainly a reminder to myself to try on all different kinds of colors and silhouettes.) This versatile little shift looks wonderful on its own when the weather is mild and adds a pop of bold color to a layered look on a cold day. Here are two ways I wore my Missoni for Target dress this fall.
Missoni on a Warm Day
- Dress – Missoni for Target
- Sandals – Nine West
- Purse – My grandmother’s knitting bag
Missoni on a Cold Day
- Dress – Missoni for Target
- Coat – Michael Kors
- Scarf – A gift
- Purse – Michael Kors
- Umbrella – Target
- Gloves – Target
- Tights – Target
- Boots – Enzo
Did you purchase any Missoni for Target pieces? How are you wearing them? Are you planning on hitting up any of the upcoming designer collaborations?

I liked the summer looked, but I am obsessed with the winter option!!!!!!!! You look great!

I love the warm day version. It looks perfectly 60s/70s.
I`m not feeling the trench-missoni combination. Maybe because “classic british” and “hippie italian” are not related. I think 60s & 70s looks only work when they are consistent (like the warm day version).
Hugs, Jen

Is Missoni considered Hippie Italian? I had no idea, but I can see how it might be a disconnect for some. I’m glad you like the warm weather version though.
I guess you pulled the dress really well. And you know how to flaunt the dress. I like the winter version because it looked sophisticated with the overcoat. And the warm version looked comfortable and casual.

Gah! I love both ways, I can’t choose just one.
You look awesome in this dress! I have the same self-consciousness about my arms, but I try to just push that away and wear whatever I want!

I think Missoni should be paying you for wearing and enhancing this dress.
Good for your mother.

Oh my god! It’s so pretty! I haven’t worn a Missoni before and just by the photo, I think it would look good to me as well!

I’m glad you like it Corinne. It is a very flattering dress. I think it would look good on a lot of people.
Your mother deserves a prize — not just for being such an intrepid shopper, but also for sharing the bounty with you! Like many of the other commenters, I love the layering you’re doing in the winter look. The whites and browns are so sharp against the Missoni colors.

I can’t believe I’m saying this aloud but I’d actually take the winter look over the summer one any day! (Both both are great!) Now I’ve surely cursed myself for inches of snow…

I like the winter look too, but then I don’t have to worry about being cursed with feet of snow! Thanks for stopping by.
