2012 is barely a week away. Meanwhile, the Christmas shopping, wrapping and eating frenzy has died down. It’s the time of year when I start thinking about what I’ve accomplished in the months gone by and what I hope to continue to do, or do differently, in the year ahead. Starting a fashion blog wasn’t on my “to do” list in early 2011, but of all the things I accomplished last year I am the most excited by The Style Confessions™.
I started this blog in March to share my style with the world. I had been reading, and loving, other personal style blogs and I wanted to try my hand at one. What a learning experience it’s been, and what fun too. I’m especially proud of my husband’s photography and pleasantly surprised that creating the images together has brought us closer. This blog is the most satisfying art project ever, but it wouldn’t be any fun without you, my readers. Thank you so much for coming along for the ride, for your delightful comments and your continued support. Here’s to all of us enjoying our most beautiful, stylish and glamorous year ever in 2012!
Below are a few highlights from 2011. Enjoy.
The Style Confessions™ is born.
Sometime in early March my husband and I took a bunch of photos at the local mall with his new DSLr camera. They became my very first post.
Romance at the Train Station
There’s a special place in my heart for this early outfit post – “Film Noir“. It was a beautiful, romantic evening. I felt sexy and glamorous and was delighted that the photographs captured my feelings. After all, I have two children and I’ve been married for over 15 years. Shouldn’t I be boring and blah by now? This was the first set of photos that made me realize, in a very personal way, that we can be glamorous and sexy at any stage in life.
Women Like Nail Polish That Doesn’t Chip
I wrote “Gel Nail Polish – What’s the Big Deal?” on a whim. I had tried OPI’s gel nail polish at the salon and thought my readers might be interested in seeing how it was done. I had no idea hundreds of women all over the world were looking for information on the topic. It’s my absolute most popular post with over 10,000 hits to date. I guess I’m not the only woman who likes nail polish that doesn’t chip.
Fake Designer Handbags Beware
In the summer of 2011 I decided to try my hand at investigative fashion reporting. My husband and I visited an area in downtown Los Angeles that was known for selling fake designer handbags to see if we could find some counterfeit Chanel, Louis Vuitton or Prada. The results were documented in “Knock Off or Not” . We got there just in time. Had I waited a few months I would have had nothing to report. On our last trip to Santee Alley there was not a counterfeit designer purse to be found anywhere.
Personal Style, Outfits and Photographs
My husband’s favorite post so far is “White Jeans – I love You”. He feels these are some of the prettiest photos he’s taken for the blog. My favorite outfit post to date is “Leather and Linen”. Not only do I adore the photos, I really love the outfit too.
Drowning in the Hype
When I heard that Missoni was doing a line of clothing and home decor for Target I was intrigued, but not at all worried that I’d be able to find a few pieces for myself. Wow, was I ever wrong. It was only by sheer luck that my mother managed to find a few pieces for me in the weeks that followed Missoni mania. I was so happy to be in the middle of the excitement that I created two outfit posts around my Missoni for Target steals. You can see a zigzag print nightgown worn as outerwear in “Missoni for Target” and the iconic knit sheath dress in “Two Ways to Wear a Missoni Dress”.
Lipstick and Luxury
After the phenomenal success of the post on gel nail polish, I thought it might be a good idea to do some more beauty reviews. My goal is to inspire women to feel beautiful and glamorous, how better than to recommend some good quality, sexy red lipsticks that cost under $10? And so “Three Glamorous Lipsticks (From the Drugstore)“ was conceived. It was followed closely by “Four More Fabulous Lipsticks for the Holidays”. The response to these two posts has been very positive. There will be more in 2012 for sure.
Are you happy to be ringing in the new year? What are some of the things you’ve accomplished in 2011? What do you hope will be different in 2012? What will you continue to do?
