Mini Dress

I took this mini-dress home after my visit to the Takapuna pop up shop and was so excited that I had to wear it the very next day. I really didn’t notice that the dress was super short when I bought it, so on went the opaque black tights. After trying on a few jackets I remembered that  mini-dresses look best worn either with something very short and cropped, or something almost as long as the dress. This short-sleeved rain coat has been worn many times on the blog.  It has a high, gathered waist in the front and although it’s black, the details and shiny fabric make one of the most unusual pieces in my wardrobe. The dark color complimented the big, abstract, floral print on the dark gray dress. The outfit was completed by a bunch of big plastic bracelets, an off white scarf and turquoise beaded cluster earrings.

As you can see there’s more than a new dress going on at The Style Confessions.  The sidebar has been updated, there’s a new title and the whole layout has been refreshed.  I hope you like it as much as I do!

Those of you who read my blog often might remember the post on The Quest for the “Perfect” Purse.  After digging through sales bins for months I finally found this excellent quality, versatile, black leather tote at Nordstrom. The detailing on the front makes it just unusual enough to keep me from getting bored, and amazingly there is no huge, tacky logo staring me in the face. The purse features a number of practical details like the surprisingly useful handle in the middle. It easily holds all my essentials and works with almost everything in my wardrobe. I couldn’t be happier about it.

  • Dress – Papillon, purchased at the Takapuna pop-up shop

  • Bangles – Purchased at the Takapuna pop-up shop
  • Earrings – Anthropologie
  • Purse – Nordstrom

How do you wear a mini dress?

I love the dress. I’ve tried a few styled similarly to how you’ve done it with tights, but I’ve also used the dress as a tunic. I’ve been searching for a similar bag–found something in buttery soft leather in a thrift store, but it’s a little less structured than yours. Lookin’ good.

If it was hard to find my bag at retail I can’t imagine how hard it would be to find one at a thrift store, but I think if it can be done you can do it! Your thrifted wardrobe is very impressive.

Thanks so much Alexis. Glad you like it. I loved your article on pastels. I’m really going to give them a go this spring, although it’s never been my look I want to try anyway.

Leggings are always good under a mini – I might wear it that way next time! So glad you like the redesign. I’m still tweaking actually.

I am usually so jealous of anyone who lives in a cooler climate in the fall when they’re all wearing sweaters and scarves and I’m sweating in a sundress, but this time of year I’m thankful to not be inundated with snow!

Great dress! I love how the pattern runs through the front and back.

Thanks Yara. I like it when clothing isn’t just designed from the front. So many times I’ll love a skirt or dress but when turned around there are no details, but we live in 3D, so should our clothing!
