A few weeks ago I was contacted by Marketplace Handwork of India to help spread the word about their beautiful clothing and, more importantly, the philanthropic work they do with impoverished women in India.
They sent me this delightful cotton blouse to model for an outfit post, and they are also giving away a $100 gift card to one lucky reader. This is the sort of clothing that feels good to wear and I’m very happy to be collaborating with them on this give away.
Here’s some more information on MarketPlace – Handwork of India. They are a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing economic opportunities for female artisans in India, and empowering them to bring about changes in their lives, the lives of their families, and their communities. Marketplace works with 480 low-income women in India to produce quality women’s apparel at a fair price that is then sold in the United States. MarketPlace supports sustainable development in some of the poorest areas of Mumbai through employment and social programs for women and their families. With the opportunity of employment, these women are empowered to become change agents in their communities, ensuring that future generations reach their potential.
Since MarketPlace began in 1986, women who were formerly unemployed, “unemployable” or desperately underemployed have been building new lives around rewarding work, educational opportunities and social support. Over this period, MarketPlace has developed, refined and expanded its model of supported self-help, which involves the artisans directly at all levels of decision-making as they form and manage their own independent cooperatives.
I love the little touch of bright pink, hand embroidery on the neckline.
The print was hand-blocked and the fabric is a lightweight, breathable, 100% cotton perfect for a warm afternoon. It was easy to find other pieces in my wardrobe to combine with the tunic . The black and white hat, multicolored printed scarf and delightful embroidered raffia tote seemed to jump out at me. Ah-ha! I thought. This will look good, and this and this too! the tunic is long enough to wear it over leggings, something I normally avoid. But I feel like they looked great with this blouse.
A printed scarf was the perfect thing to throw over the outfit when the day cooled off.
So, would you like a pretty tunic like this to wear this summer? Marketplace is giving away a $100 gift card to one of my readers, so something in their catalogue could be yours. All you have to do is leave a comment.
The rules of the give away are simple. Go to Marketplace – Handwork of India and look through their catalogue of beautiful blouses, dresses and accessories. Come back here and leave me a comment on this post telling me which piece, or pieces, you would buy with your $100 gift card. (Unfortunately Marketplace only ships to the United States, so this is not open to my friends who live outside of the US.) I will choose a winner on April 16th using the plugin “And the Winner Is”. Normally I try to reply to all the comments on my blog, but this time I won’t because the plugin can’t discern between my replies and your comments.
Good luck friends!
So, did you look at their on-line catalogue? What did you think of the items? What would you wear yourself? And what do you think of the mission of Marketplace, Handwork of India?
