…was a summer in San Francisco. This quote has always been attributed to Mark Twain, so it’s a shame he didn’t say it. Someone did though, and it’s understandable to anyone who’s ever visited the city by the bay. The neighborhoods near the ocean are almost always foggy and cold, but I don’t think I’ve ever been quite as surprised by the freezing winds as I was the sunny, warm day when my husband and I visited Fort Point. It was still sunny, but it wasn’t warm anymore.
I was born in San Francisco and still have a lot of family living in the city. Although my parents and I relocated to Los Angeles when I was a tot we have driven up the highway to see our native town every summer ever since. It’s a beautiful place and I feel blessed to be able to visit so often. There are many sites to see but we often head to our favorite parks and places. One of those is Crissy Field, and right near it, the Civil War era fort at the mouth of the bay where my husband and I took these photos.

Have you ever been to San Francisco? Were you surprised by the weather?

I love your skirt next to the bridge!
I have been to San Fran—- the weather is cold and foggy, but there is something slightly magical about it.

It’s a magical city for sure Alexis. I’m not complaining. It’s beautiful.

I’ve always wanted to go to San Francisco but haven’t gotten there yet. The weather can’t be that bad compared to Pittsburgh!
Love the pictures. I especially like the last one. And I noticed that you’re wearing flats, like you talked about in one of your recent posts. I imagine that’s the only way to go walking around the bridge!

Whenever I see San Francisco based fashion bloggers wearing mile high platforms I wonder if they just put them on for the photos. The city is hilly and everyone walks everywhere. Although I see a lot of women wearing high platforms here in L.A., I have yet to see a single woman in San Francisco in such shoes. I look too! The highest heels I’ve ever seen on the street are about 2″. Flats are a necessity in San Francisco.

I love SF but it is a bit chilly there. Even Seattle has hotter summers.

Yes, it’s chilly! I think I prefer it to LA’s hot climate though.

It looks so beautiful Heather–I do miss it, just not the cold summer weather! Although there was always something sort of nice about the atmospheric fog.

The fog is beautiful. Great for the skin too I’ve noticed. Honestly the foggy weather never really bothers me, but when it goes from warm to freezing it’s a bit of a shock.
I can cope with the cold much better than the heat.
Brilliant photos.

In general I do better in the cold than the heat too, but I don’t really have a good wardrobe for the cold. I was pretty layered up that day and I was still unprepared for the cold!

Stunning photos!
What a nice outfit! Great jacket, btw!

Thanks Jeannie. It is a great jacket. I love the fit. Wish it was real leather rather than vinyl though! If I could find a place that made jackets to order I’d have it created in real leather.

I love the red skirt! Yes, it’s always a bit breezy in SF, it’s usually warmer in October! I’m excited to embrace fall fashions!
Thats true, San Francisco is usually warmer in the fall!

Hey dear,
what a SUPER-AWESOME-ARTISTIC photoseries! AMAZING colours! I love how the red of the skirt pops out in the pictures and is a real eyecater. The femininity of the skirt also creates a great contrast to the urban/industrial environment.
GREAT shooting!

Thank you Jen! It was a fun place for a photoshoot. My husband wants to go back next time we’re in the city, but I’ll be bringing fur with me! It was so cold.

Great photoshoot again. I’ve been to San Francisco a few times and indeed very surprised about how cold it was in summer. Much better in the winter months, when I first visited. It’s a lovely city though and that bridge is just the most picturesque. Great outfit too!

Thanks Sylvia. I find it’s very difficult to be chic on vacation. It always seems like I leave what I really need at home. Sigh.

This is such a fabulous outfit for the setting around you. I was actually just in San Fran and it was super foggy and cold! I actually liked it, though — reminded me of home.

Honestly I like the super foggy cold in San Francisco too. It would be a welcome relief right now! It’s been too hot in L.A.
amazing photos! love your flats!
Thanks Shanti. Those are the best flats. I’ve worn the heck out of them and they’re pretty much dead now. I’m hoping Nine West makes something similar this fall so I can pick up another pair, in like 10 colors!

I’ve been to San Francisco a few times. I really like it – probably BECAUSE OF the cool weather and I love how city-like it is. Would definitely go back!

It’s a beautiful place and I don’t mind the cooler weather. Living in sunny-all-the-time LA a bit of fog is refreshing!
