A silk dress on a hot day

The heat wave continues in Los Angeles and I fight back my way. “Bring it on!” I say, because now I have the perfect olive-green printed silk dress to combat the heat in style. It occurred to me, after looking at about a zillion photos of chic women in New York City look fab in sweltering heat, that a pretty dress is simply unbeatable in these situations.

I found this silk dress at my favorite consignment boutique, Ampersand. I can’t say it was cheap, silk never is, nor should it be considering how the fiber is made. The dress is slightly longer in the back, and the print is an abstract design in olive, my favorite color at the moment, and black. It is as light as a breeze. I’m wearing it with gladiator sandals for comfort, and my big orange purse for a bit of autumn flair. Leopard print sunglasses and olive-green dangle earrings finish the look.

I’m wearing my hair up in a twist, because in 100 degree weather any hair on the back of the neck is unbearable.

I thought this dress would look good and keep me cool in the heat, but I also think I’ll be able to add some layers later in the year when the weather is colder. Yes, I’m still dreaming of real fall weather. One day…

Wearing:

  • Silk dress by Geren Ford
  • The orange purse was a gift from my father
  • Earrings from Forever 21
  • Gladiator sandals from Camper

Do you have a silk sundress? Tell me about it.

Thank you Sacramento! I’ve had the sunglasses for a long time. They are prescription. I can’t see without them!

Photos are lovely. As is your outfit. I’m so jealous that you still have heat. We’re well and truly autumnal now. 🙁

stunning dress! I have one silk maxi dress by Parker, but it needs alterations, so never gets worn…this should give me some inspiration!

Oh get it to a seamstress so you can wear it! I have some clothes that need alteration. It always makes me sad when I can’t wear them. Sigh.

This is such a great Autumn look! Lukus and I were laughing the other day as we put on our leather jackets to go out for a bite, just as an LA friend sent a text complaining about the heat!

This dress has such a great palette for an LA fall…. I am sure you will get a ton of use out of it!

I put on my leather jacket in the morning to take the kids to school because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to wear it. Enjoy the fall weather!

PRETTY! What an awesome ensamble! Love it from head to toe!
I do have a few silk dresses…nothing feels as smooth as silk on your skin. Worth every penny. Oh, I suppose cashmere comes pretty close. 🙂

Thanks Jeannie. Glad you like the dress, and cashmere is really fabulous. I need to get more of it in my closet.
