When I wear this camouflage print skirt I feel like such a trend setter . Why? I’ve been wearing it for ten years, probably way before all the chic girls on my camouflage print Pinterest board bought their cute print jackets. It’s a little too big on me now, and faded, but I love it and have worn it every fall for the past ten years. It’s old and comfortable enough to wear around the house but suddenly it’s also fashionable enough to wear out and about.
Like leopard and large-scale floral prints, military-inspired clothes and camouflage never go away entirely. Not only do army surplus stores offer the sort of prices that inspire people to buy brand new camouflage print trousers and military jackets ever year, fashionable or not, the print is also a classic. From what I understand the American armed forces now prefer the pixellated computer-generated camouflage prints, but I’ve always loved the old-fashioned painterly pools of green and beige. It looks like the fashionable set do as well. Regardless of its popularity camouflage prints will probably cycle in and out of fashion for many years to come, so if you’re thinking of investing in an olive-green jacket with this iconic print, buy something of good quality and you’ll wear it all this fall and another autumn ten years from now, when it comes back into fashion again.
In these photos I’ve dressed up the skirt a bit with a sheer white cotton blouse and a belt, but my gladiator sandals and olive-green backpack are decidedly casual. It’s still too hot here in Los Angeles to get really done up, and my husband and I were only heading over to my Mother-in-Law’s house for dinner, stopping on the way an afternoon coffee hit. On my fingers is the sparkly olive-green nail polish I wrote about in this post, and for fun I put on a new leather cuff I found at a local shop along with my military green Timex watch.
Wearing:
- Hand me down white blouse
- Target backpack
- Camouflage print mini skirt from The Gap (You can find a similar skirt here.)
- I can’t remember where I bought the belt.
- Gladiator sandals from Camper
- Timex watch from Target
- Leather cuff from a store on Melrose Avenue
- Butter London Nail Polish in Wallis.
What do you think of the camouflage print trend? Are you going to try it or do you already have something camouflage in your closet, just waiting to be worn again?

Wow to the nails and camo mini!!!! Love the lighting in this shoot, you look fantastic! Totally jealous that you’re having lovely weather! Still bleak and grey here.
Have a wonderful weekend!

I’d love a little bleak and grey weather in my life right now. I’ve got the AC going at 5 p.m. It’s hot and it’s going to get even hotter next week. Sigh. So much for cool fall weather. Thanks for the compliments though. Glad you like the post!
I don’t have any camo, but I am wearing olive green! You look great

Yeah I’ve always like camo, it has an ‘urban edge’ to it. I have a waterproof carhartt jacket that is a little too big for me to wear all the time. But if it’s really wet and windy and I’m only nipping out it’s perfect.
You’re bang on about the military inspired pieces and safari leopard prints almost being staples for A/W and S/S now, you can’t go wrong with either.

Your waterproof jacket sounds great! So does the wet and windy weather actually. Can you send us some fog please?

I don’t have any camo, but now that you mention it, I think I will hunt a skirt or shirt down ASAP. Thanks for the inspiration Heather. Gorgeous photos as usual!

Shirts are easier to find in Camo than skirts. I’m going to keep my eyes open for another skirt too. My old one is looking very faded these days. I think it might be time for a new one.
This photo shoot is so pretty, friend.
Also I feel that way about leather! I have been wearing leather for years! people thought i was so edgy! no everyone has leather shorts!

Lol! It’s funny how something we’ve been wearing for years suddenly becomes all the rage. I have a jacket from last year that looks perfectly on trend this year as well, though I have to say I really didn’t see the leather trend coming quite the way it has.

I don’t have anything camouflage right now but I would probably be open to getting something. I like the neutral muted color palette.

It’s a fun print, and useful with little kids because it doesn’t show the dirt! I have my eyes on a pair of camo jeans but I’m trying to save money. It’s hard to resist though!
