Earlier this season the online clothing and home decor company Soft Surroundings contacted me and suggested a creative collaboration. Now, I would just be lying if I told you that I don’t love receiving gifts, and looking through their delightful catalog of casually elegant clothing I could see I would have no trouble picking something out, so I jumped on the opportunity to review one of their garments.
I immediately fell for the floaty, sheer, Kasbah Top. I thought it would be a stylish blouse to wear in autumn. If you read my blog regularly you know that finding clothes to wear this time of year is a challenge for me. It’s usually warm in Los Angeles in the fall, so I look for summer-weight garments in autumn colors. The sheer fabric and bold print in dark burgundy, black and tan seemed like a perfect fit. It was very hot the day I wore it, probably around 100 degrees farenheit, and I must say I felt cool, comfortable and very elegant.
What I love most about this blouse is the way it moves. It floats and sways with every movement. The sides have a small tie with a bead on the end, which gives the tunic some weight.
I ordered the L/XL size as I usually worry that anything in a small or medium size will be too small, but as you can see from the photos the tunic is cut generously. Its long enough to be worn as a mini dress, so I paired it with a black slip and sandals.
Disclosure: Although I received the tunic as a gift I was not paid for this review. My thoughts on the garment are all my own.
Wearing:
- Kasbah Tunic courtesy of Soft Surroundings
- Slip by Commando
- The sandals were a gift from my mother
- Purse purchased in downtown L.A.
- Rubber bangles from Maya on Melrose Avenue
- Red drop earrings from Anthropologie

Thank Anne. And we’ve been having some crazy heat waves, haven’t we? You’re closer to the beach so it’s probably not as bad as it is here. Sigh. Can’t wait for it to end.

Thanks Pam. I know the catalog is filled with great things.
Oh I love the colors in this tunic, it is also very age appropriate for you.One day I would love the opportunity to style you. I am looking to product a Makeover Show in the near future, maybe I will be able to entice you into participating.

I’m glad you like it. The makeover show sounds like fun, though I hope I don’t really need a makeover!
Everyone can benefit from improving their look and getting an objective opinion. In my business that is my greater challenge, those who need the makeover the most are the ones who are most resistant. One of my resent post “The Evolution of Solange Knowles”, I suspect she was extremely resistant, she finally allowed some to consult her. Look how she has evolved in her style.

I guess. My look is a process I enjoy working on myself, but then I’m not a celebrity. If I was I would probably consider hiring a stylist as part of the job, though I have been intrigued by the in-store stylists that a lot of places are offering. What is your business? Are you a personal stylist? I haven’t gotten a very good idea of who you are from your blog. I always thought it was three different people collaborating?
You look very lovely in this tunic.
Thank you Greetje!

Wow! What a gorgeous look you created with the tunic! Love love!!
Don’t you just love Soft Surrounding? I feel like going on a vacation when I look thru their catalog….a tropical vacation!

Thanks Jeannie. I only discovered Soft Surroundings because they contacted me. There’s a lot of stuff in there that I like, and I also like that they offer tall sizes. I’m looking forward to ordering a maxi skirt that actually hits the top of my foot and not my ankle!
Very cute tunic. I think it would be great for the spring as well and probably when I would wear it. Here on the East coast we are wearing jackets it’s so chilly. Anyway, you look lovely as always.

Oh Sharon you’re so lucky to live some place with WEATHER. I’m really getting sick of the heat this year. Usually we have some breaks in between the heat waves, but not this time around. It’s finally cooling off a little, but not enough for me. Anyway, glad you like the tunic. Oddly, here it will probably be too cool to wear it until later in the summer.
I really like that you styled it over a black slip….. it feels very unique like something you found on an exotic vacation….

Thanks Alexis. I liked it over the slip as well, though my daughter felt it would be better over leggings. I think the slip made it a little sexier, plus it was way too hot that day for leggings.
Love your blog, very inspirational!

Beautiful once again. I can’t help raving about this blog. Heather you are my style icon and thanks for introducing me to the concept of consignment shop shopping! It’s not all that big in Australia but I have one local consignment store where I’ve discovered some really stylish and funky pieces. Thanks so much
Aw – thank you Nicole! You’re so sweet. Consignment stores are becoming hugely popular here. There’s a small one near me that I just love. It’s like the ultimate treasure boutique. I’m glad you found one near you too.
beautiful tunic! wonderful photos, love the columns in the first one.
Thank you Shanti. The columns are part of an open-air installation at our local county museum. It’s wonderful at night because they’re all antique lamp posts, and they all work! It’s one of my favorite places to take photos. They always look interesting!
