Although the weather has started to cool off here in Los Angeles last weekend was warm and sunny. I spent Sunday afternoon with my husband, children and my father in lovely Pasadena. We didn’t do much more than enjoy and early dinner and spend some time wandering the stores in Old Town. Before the sun set Hugo and I took a moment to take some photos at the local park.
Normally I’m very decisive with my outfits, but faced with yet another warm, sunny fall day I stared into my closet and sighed deeply. I’m really sick of my summer clothes at this point. My favorite floral wrap dress called to me from its spot in the closet. I think a favorite piece earns it’s title when you want to wear it even though you’re bored with the look in general. I do love the colors in this dress. The orange, beige and olive on black are very “me” and I was happy that there was enough of a chill in the air this weekend to call for a lightweight scarf around the neck, though not enough of a chill to forgo the sandals.
I purchased this dress last year on sale and have worn it often ever since. Even though it seems perfect for so many situations I do have a couple of issues with it. It’s a wrap dress, so the threat of a wardrobe malfunction is always there. The sexy, low “V” neckline is very flattering but also a bit too revealing at times. The solution was obvious. I need a full slip to wear underneath it. Remember those? You used to be able to find whole racks of nylon slips in every color at just about every department store. Now they’re an endangered species. I felt lucky to find this nude one by Commando at Nordstrom. So lucky in fact that I bought one in black as well.
Wearing:
- Scarf from Nordstrom
- Dress by Veronica M
- Slip by Commando
- Bracelet and watch from Gilt.com
- The coral necklace belonged to my grandmother.
- Purse of unknown make
- Sandals by Roberto de Carlo
What are you wearing this weekend?

I love the color combo of your wrap dress and your shoes are beautiful, but I totally get what you mean. I think every morning I look into my closet and sigh.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I cleaned my closet and put in all my fall winter clothes this weekend, so I’m sighing less with boredom now, but more with frustration!
Radiant, my dear Heather, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Congrats to the wonderful photographer too.
Have a lovely weekend

Your photos are so amazing!
I love your floral dress! Are you sure you want the weather to cool off? I don’t do very well in cold weather, and it’s been in the mid 40′s in the mornings here. I prefer your weather!
Have a terrific weekend!

Mid 40′s sounds like heaven right now! A fire in the fireplace…it’s almost 6 pm and its still around 75 degrees here. I know I shouldn’t complain, but I can’t help myself! I’m done!

These autumnal colors work brilliantly with your coloring.
The light is so lovely in your photos.
I too am tired of my summer attire. I use that term loosely since most of my pieces can be used year round with a bit of layering once our short cool season arrives.
I think you’re smart to have a closet of season free clothing, and I’m wondering if it isn’t something I should pursue in the future.
That dress is really a great LA fall dress. I totally understand your frustration with wanting to dress seasonally and dealing with the less than seasonal temps.

Thanks Alexis. I think you have to have lived in a climate like this to understand the frustration. I’m sure all my friends who live in England and back east think I’m insane!

Everytime I see shots like this, I feel like I’m on holiday with you! Good to see you still have plenty of sun despite the cooling down! Love the sneaky slip under the wrap dress.
Also lovely Tunic you had on in the previous posts.

We always have sun here in LA! Fog and clouds are somewhat unusual, but the cooing trend didn’t last long. It’s super hot again this week. Sigh.
Oh I love the dress and the scarf combo. Goes really well together.

Summer just won’t end this year shanti! I’d really like some cooler weather, but I’m afraid ill just have to be patient.

I love love love your dress! Gorgeous print.
Doesn`t look like fall at all – rather like late summer (you know I envy you!)
Have a nice week, dear!

We just don’t have fall weather here in Los Angeles. I realized a while ago that its as if all the seasons have moved back three months, so summer here is spring weather, and fall here is summer weather etc. it does make it difficult to dress for the season though. Sigh.

Lovely dress Heather. That V neck would surely be too low for me too! As for getting tired of summer clothes… I have no choice but to be creative with it…
