Enjoying the Holiday Season

TheGrove-8Every year the holiday season takes me by surprise. I realize on December 1st that I have a mere three weeks to shop for gifts, decorate my home and send up to one hundred holiday cards to friends, clients and family. I’m a fairly organized person and I keep lists and notes from year to year to help me keep on track of all I need to do. Even so, it’s now mid-December and the happy holiday spirit is slowly being replaced by a grinchy scowl.

I have no advice on how to stay calm and happy through the holiday madness as I’m not very good at navigating the season myself, but I do try to take a breather every few days to go out and see the lights. Many streets here in Los Angeles are decorated for the holidays with glowing presents, holly and other seasonal imagery, but the best holiday displays are probably at the local shopping malls, many of which are outdoors. Last weekend my husband and I went to The Grove to look for some gifts. Although I didn’t find much to fill up my Christmas gift list, I was amazed at the lights, which were wrapped around every tree and building. During these short, dark, days of December I believe we need the extra light to keep the blues away.

Huge stars are suspended over Santa’s house.

The Grove features a double-decker trolley that runs from one side of the mall to the other. It’s decorated for the holidays with wreathes and bows.TheGrove-2

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at a local restaurant. I had a salad. Hugo had pizza.

Love that top picture so much and, of course, the outfit! I love this time of year so much that i just choose to enjoy it….even with chaos surrounding me. It goes by so quickly!

The chaos does go by so quickly, and the finish sometimes seems rather anti-climatic. Oh well. I hope to have everything done soon so I can lie back and enjoy the rest of the season.

    Hello Leather Heather,
How fun… One of your last posts – just a few days ago – was about the warm weather in L.A. and today you seem ready to fight the cold winter… Weather mysteries…
Love your skirt; what a gorgeous color!
Thanks for sharing all these beautiful photos.
Gotta go / run to … START (!!!!!!!) buying some Christmas gifts. Did you say you were late? LOL!

The weather is mercurial in Los Angeles but I’d say the weather right now is pretty normal for this time of year. It usually cools off in December. I’m glad you like the skirt. I bought it last year and I still love it.

    • Heather Fonseca December 14, 2012 at 5:01 pm #

Indeed, the big city lights are fun but even more fun during the holidays.

Very nice combination: chic and still comfortable. Give your husband my compliments for his photographing. Especially the last photo is beautiful and the styling is great.
As far as Christmas stress is concerned: I have got rid of that. Easy to say as we don’t exchange gifts, so that makes it a lot easier. And I am a terrible cook which gives me the perfect excuse to go to a caterer and say: you cook, I fetch. Deal?
Result: I don’t have any stress, everybody has a nice meal and there are hardly any dishes.
When you have your contemplating moments, try to assess if the thing that gives you stress, is really that important? Will anybody be less happy if it does not happen?

You look gorgeous. Love the up-do. And the leather skirt!
I’m not into the holidays- not very close to my extended family so it’s usually not a big deal to me. This year me and the dude will celebrate our 2nd together. That’s something I warm up to.

Happy holidays to you and your fams!

Thanks Bella! I’ve got a large extended family with a lot of children. It takes me all month to prepare the gifts, cards, cookies, etc. If I would start earlier it would probably be easier, but I never do!

Awesome pictures. I do love the wondrous sites and sounds of the Holiday season. Sometimes the stress can be a little fun (at least to me) other times I can’t wait for it all to be over.

    • Heather Fonseca December 17, 2012 at 12:41 pm #

It’s true. Sometimes stress is exciting, sometimes it’s just overwhelming.

Very lovely outfit Heather! What I like most is going on a holiday and explore something new! No traditional Christmas for me this year but instead looking for sharks (scary).

The holidays for me are all about spending time with family. I love doing nothing and just chilling out in the warmth and watching cheesy made for TV movies. In fact that’s what I’m doing now. I just need a wrap a few presents then I’m all set.

I loved the photos of the Christmas decorations as well.

How nice Arash! It changes when you become a parent. I didn’t need to do as much when I was younger, and I really enjoyed the decorating and stuff too. But it does seem like I have a lot more on my plate now. Enjoy your holiday!
