The Tuxedo

I love seeing a man in a tuxedo. It’s so elegant. I hope you enjoy this guest post from my site supporters on the subject of the tuxedo and formalwear.

The Value of Formalwear

The holiday season brings with it lots of dressy events. Whether you will be attending office parties, gala events, New Year’s parties, or any of countless types of black-tie affairs, you will want to dress appropriately. To save yourself stress and worry about what to wear you can simplify things and get yourself a high quality tuxedo.

Benefits of Owning a Tux

Put very simply, a tuxedo is never wrong for a formal event. There are numerous advantages to owning your own tuxedo. Most notably, your tux can be tailor fitted. This means it will not only fit better and be more flattering, it will also be more comfortable to wear.

Although a tux may cost more than a typical suit, if you wear it to only a few events it will save you money over tuxedo rental fees. Also, having your own tux relieves you of the stress related to ‘what to wear’.

Choosing the Right Tuxedo

Tuxedos are available in a wide range of styles and fabrics. Of course, you should choose one that you think looks good, but you should also consider your body type. That is, your tux should flatter you. For example, a double-breasted jacket can make a thin man look more muscular. On the flip side, this type of jacket can make a husky man look heavier.

The idea is to choose a tux that accentuates your positive body features and helps take attention from any flaws. The collar style as well as the bow tie you choose should work with your face. Men with heavy faces and necks should avoid wing tipped collars and small ties. Smaller bow ties look great on thin men. Trouser legs should be slightly loose fitting. This adds to your comfort and provides an elegant look.

Tuxedo Shirts

When you invest in a tuxedo you will also want to purchase at least one or two shirts. There are three basic types of tuxedo shirts:

  1. Downed Collar or Laydown Collar – These shirts feature a collar much like those found on typical button-down shirts.
  2. Mandarin Collar – This is a stand-up band collar shirt.
  3. Wing Tip Collar – These collars provide a definite formal appearance.

Complete the Look with a Great Pair of Shoes

You can complete your look with a great pair of shoes. Shoes worn with tuxedos should have laces and be shiny. The style is often referred to as oxford-style. And with that, you will have a totally formal look at your fingertips, which will have you prepared to attend every formal event that comes along.

I wish I could wear a jacket like this but I am so flat chested, I think it would make me look manish.

Maybe. If you found one that fit just right it would look nice I’m sure! Models are flat and they look amazing in tuxedos.

The day I get my husband to wear a tuxedo…. Never.
If and when he has dropped enough weight to look reasonably nice in a suit, he would want to give it a twist. He hates conforming. I think a tuxedo looks really nice.
Oh well… I already got him to lose weight, so I am counting my blessings. Being a clothes addict, I hate him having a Santa Claus tummy. But I love him a lot for other things, so he knows I am not going to leave him.

One day the man in the tux will be the non-conformist. I keep hoping that more formal clothes will come back into the popular vernacular, but I think we’re beyond hope here in the states. Sigh.

You and Mary Jo have tuxes on the brain!

I love a man in a tux. For our wedding Lukus really wanted an old Hollywood feel- plus we were in Cabo, so he wore a white dinner jacket with black pants version. I loved the look!

I also love a fabulous Tux, along with some bold lips and maybe a sparkly bodice underneath the jacket! Le Smoking!!! It is a very hot look for the festive holidays!

Have a fantastic Christmas Heather and an amazing New Year!

I love Tuxes on women! But I rarely have an occasion to wear a tux hence I don’t own one yet. I may invest in one in the future however. At the moment I’d rather invest in a really great suit as I’d get much more wear from it.

Yeah, unfortunately the world of fashion is getting more and more casual. But we can dream right?

I like tuxedos too, though I don’t have one. Hmm. Maybe I should change that?
