Maxi skirts and dresses are a summer staple and not something I normally wear in the colder months, but the other week the temperatures rose and we had a few days of delightfully warm weather here in Los Angeles. Suddenly my black maxi dress, which had been in winter hiding, felt like the just the right thing to wear. I thought it might look good with my biker jacket, and it did. I wore this outfit about three days in a row, and felt like one of the cool girls the whole time.
Then it got cold and I had to put my boots back on. But for a few days I looked like this.
For those of us not living in an area prone to winters with summer weather, here are a few ways to wear your maxi dress in the cold.
Wearing:
- Black leather biker jacket from The Gap (Here’s another one from The Gap)
- Big leather cuff from a place on Melrose
- Black maxi dress from Veronica M
- Black sandals from Nine West
- The tote was a gift from my father
- In case you’re wondering, the red polish is “I Red a Good Book” by Wet n Wild.
Would you wear a maxi dress with a biker jacket?

Hi Heather!
Before seeing your photos, the answer would have been “no”. You made me change my mind………. I have a dark red leather jacket that I usually wear with jeans. I feel like revisiting it soon with a maxi dress. Thanks for the idea

You’re welcome! Florida is probably a maxi-dress year round kind of place. Let me know how it works, and what scarf you wore with it.
I love all your photos. I love biker jackets. I love bomber jackets. I love any type of leather jacket. This jacket looks very cool with the maxi dress. I like it. Your bag is fabulous.
Thanks Marla!
Fabulous encounter indeed, wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Looking glorious, dear Heather.

Looks good! I have a dumb question – why wouldn’t you wear a maxi dress in the winter? Can’t you just wear tights under it? I’m making up my owl rules
I’m clueless I guess.

Yeah, you can wear a maxi dress with tights but it depends upon the fabric. Mine are all made of knit jersey and it can stick to tights. It can certainly be done, but I rather like how maxi dresses look with sandals. The super-long can be kind of frumpy (…at this age. What looks frumpy at 20 really?) but when worn with not much else they can be really sexy.

Sorry about the comment form. It gets persnickety sometimes. I’m not sure why. But I’m glad you like my look.
You look like a top model in these pictures.
Aw! Thanks Ariane.
I never thought of pairing a long black dress with a leather jacket!
Your look is very stylish and inspirational.

Thanks Annette. I was very pleased with the outfit myself. I’m glad you find it inspirational.
I like it. I often combine my biker jacket with more summery/floaty pieces.

Hi Anne! Actually we were at Pan Pacific Park. It looks very moody doesn’t it? I know we both have the same purse. Only I think mine came from a little store on third.

Don’t you wish it were spring already? I love leather/biker/moto jackets and maxi dresses.

Well, it kind of is here in LA! It’s been so warm recently.
I love the outfit, and you look like a fashionable celebrity in those shots! I’d definitely wear a maxi dress and a biker jacket – but not in 20 inches of snow:)

No, 20 inches of snow wouldn’t be a good place to wear a maxi dress for sure. Glad you like the outfit though!
Frankly, I love a black biker jacket over just about anything (especially if there is a bit of a juxtaposition!)…. great look!
