Los Angeles Street Style Video

Street Style Video PostDowntown Los Angeles acts as a backdrop for one of my favorite thrifted dresses in this street style outfit video.

My Street Style Video

An Unusual Silk Dress

In the video I wear a silk dress purchased a couple of years ago on a whim at a thrift store. It was cheap, maybe $10, and fit perfectly except the lining was too tight. At ten dollars plus tax an ill-fitting polyester lining was no big deal, especially because the dress itself was made of the softest, floatiest silk. So I bought it. Then I wore it. I loved the dress. The wrap front skirt is short in the back and creates a dramatic, unusual silhouette. But the too-tight poly lining rode up and was so uncomfortable that the dress almost went  back to the thrift store as a donation. Instead I took it to the dry cleaners in the hopes of fixing the lining. They tried, and managed to make it worse. Disgusted I took a scissor to the polyester. Now I wear the dress with a slip underneath and it’s perfect: floaty, soft and somehow just a little edgy.

This is the second of my outfit video posts. You can see the first one here.

Wearing:

  • Thrifted silk frock
  • Slip by Commando
  • Chain necklace from my favorite consignment shop
  • Nail Polish – Nightwatch by Sally Hansen
  • Denim jacket by Tommy Hillfiger
  • Little purse by Hobo
  • Nude sandals from Barneys

What do you think of my dress? Have you ever bought a piece of clothing that needed a lot of alteration before it was wearable? Tell me your story!

It is a beautiful dress. The slip is very short and nude, which makes it look to me like nude underwear. Wouldn’t it be nicer to wear a slip in one of the colours of the dress? Blue or brown? I know that the nude colour is also in the dress, but you get what I mean.
Again it is a beautiful dress and very sexy.

The slip has to be short because the back of the dress is really short. (That view kind of got cut out of the video.) As for the color I LOVE the idea of a beautiful silk slip, but they’re hard to find, at least in LA. I’ll keep looking!

Very sexy dress. I love the feel of silk and l had bought a pair of black leggings from a thrift store that felt like silk but could not be sure as the tag was missing. When I tried them on at home the seam up the butt was split and I was so disappointed because other wise I really loved them. I had this crazy idea to have a 1/2″ wide zipper sewn in where the split was and now I have the coolest leggings in town. Kind of feel like Sandy from the movie greese.

Oh thanks for sharing that awsome video.

Fun things happen with thrifted goods! They’re so inexpensive altering them isn’t a big deal.

I loved your first video but this is even better and the late afternoon sunlight is gorgeous!
You are posing and acting so naturally. The dress is beautiful and very figure flattering.
I really love everything about it!

Heather, Love this dress and the video! Kudos to you and your husband for having the patience to do the videos. I have tried, but it takes a lot of time!

I have taken scissors to many an ill-fitting lining! I have never regretted it! xoxo

Paula I don’t think I could do this blog without my husband. He does all the photography work, unless I’ve taken shots of makeup or something. If I’m in the shot, he’s taken it. Now he’s really into the videos. I’m a lucky woman!

It’s really disappointing when a tailor makes a garment even worse (been there!) At least you were able to find a solution.
The golden light and quiet street setting are ideal here. Well done!

this scale print will overwhelm me (being short) but looks lovely on your frame!

love the short video showcase, gives a much better perspective to this dress than still photos.

how about a silky dark blue slip with lace edge? the lace peekaboo will be up the sex appeal 🙂
