Natural Sunscreen – My New Favorites

Natural Sunscreen by Kiss My Face

Last week summer marched into fall, not that anyone would know from the weather here in southern California. Most people in the U.S. are putting their sunscreen away for next year, but I use it year-round. For those of you who live in sunny climates like mine this post is for you! This summer I found a whole new line of sun protection products that I love. My new favorite natural sunscreen is by Kiss My Face .

This summer I tried a some new sunscreens and reviewed my drugstore favorites in the post: Sunblock for the Beach. While researching sunblock for the post I came across a number of rave reviews for Kiss My Face brand sunscreen. I searched for it at every drugstore but failed to find their line of sun protection products on the shelves. Finally I discovered that my local health food store, Whole Foods, carries the entire product line. I snatched one up along with a few other natural sunscreens to try this summer. My review? Glowing. In fact I liked the face sunscreen so much I went back and bought the body lotion and spray-on sunscreen.  What can I say? I love it!

Natural Sunscreen for the Face and Neck

I wear sunscreen on my face and arms every day, rain or shine. Since the weather is usually sunny here in Los Angeles this is a necessity, but finding an affordable sunscreen that doesn’t clog my pores or make my face greasy has proven to be difficult. Earlier this year I found an excellent, inexpensive, facial sunscreen by Yes to Carrots and wrote about it here on the blog. Now I can add another affordable facial sunscreen to my list of favorites. Kiss My Face Face & Neck Face Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 is a lightweight lotion that contains antioxidants like aloe vera and green tea extract. It doesn’t irritate my skin or cause me to break out. It’s also fragrance free, which I like.

Kiss my face makes a very nice lotion sunscreen with SPF 30. Like the face sunscreen it is fragrance free, but includes in the ingredient list things like green tea, carrot, oat, licorice and cucumber extracts, so it smells pretty nice on its own.

I love spray-on sunscreen because it’s convenient, but my kids run from me when I try to put it on them because it comes out of the can cold. Not this one. The spray is an old-fashioned pump with a special locking mechanism. The spray is room temperature.  Sometime, if the bottle has been in the sun, it’s warm. Like the facial sunscreen this contains aloe vera. It also includes green tea extract and vitamin E.

There’s also a spray on sunscreen oil in the line that I can’t wait to try. I didn’t review it but it seems like it would be pretty great too.

I purchased all these products with my own money at Whole Foods. The Kiss My Face “Face Factor” SPF 30 cost $12.99 for a 2 ounce tube. The body lotion cost the same for a larger four ounce tube. I didn’t record the price of the spray on lotion, but it’s probably about the same.

Have you tried this line of sunscreen?

I use sunscreen year round living in FL. I’ve never tried that particular sunscreen. I use Lancome’s BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ because it feels so good on my skin, never feels greasy, and never breaks me out.

I used to love Lancome products but I rarely use them now because they’re kind of expensive. Plus the perfume! I really don’t like any scent in my facial products. But I used to LOVE Lancome lipstick.

I may live in a rainy climate, but I also wear sunscreen year round on my face and neck (my arms don’t get to see the light much). And my sun has a sun allergy, so we are always looking for great natural sunscreen recos. Thanks for this review. That spray version might just be a lifesaver in our family.

I haven’t tried this but it’s good to know you give it a seal of approval. I try to always have it on but occasionally run out to do something in the garden and forget. Hope your weekend was a good one Heather!

Thank you Mary Jo! I do think this is a good brand to try, especially because it’s not very expensive.

such a good habit to get into. I do put sunscreen on my face every day, but forget about my neck, hands, chest, legs…. I also like natural sunscreens so happy to hear that this is a good one. I’ll definitely check it out.
As a side note: I’m curious what widget you used to have the photos of the of all the sunscreens. It’s amazing! Thanks so much!!

Hi Kim & Chloe! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I’m glad you liked my natural sunscreen suggestions. The widget is from shop sense. It’s an affiliate link, so if you click on one of the images it will take you to an online store that sells the product. It’s not an easy sunscreen to find so I thought it would be helpful. And it does look nice!

Thanks for the review. I will have to try it. My moisturizer is SPF 20 – probably not strong enough. I will definitely be on the lookout for this line.

I’ve read that anything over 15 SPF is just a gimmick, and then I’ve read that we should all be using at least 30 SPF, so I don’t really know. I’d say it depends upon how much sun you get where you live. I tend to use 30 in the summer and 15 in the winter. Still, if you go to a health food store look for the line. I think you’d like it for yourself and your girls.

Yay for wearing sunscreen year round! Most people don’t realize how important it is to wear sunscreen year round even in climates with less sun in the winter than SoCal.

And just as an FYI, the Kiss My Face sunscreens that you recommended aren’t actually “natural.” Their best natural sunscreen is actually just called “Natural Mineral Sunscreen.” It looks like the products that you tested all have octinoxate, which is a bad hormone disruptor and is rated a 6 by the EWG. I hope that helps!

    Enjoy the LA sun! Jealous!

Hi Adrian, Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Here in LA I have to wear sunscreen year round as it’s almost always sunny.
