Heather Fonseca is a designer, wife and mother living in Los Angeles. Although she went to school to learn to become a fashion designer, in an amusing twist of life she now designs teen fashion dolls like Barbie for a living. (You can see her designs and fashion illustrations at HeatherFonseca.com.)
Fashion has been Heather’s passion for as long as she can remember. She was one of those kids who was always doodling during class. Cute girls wearing trendy clothes decorated all her notebooks and the margins of class notes. Barbie was a big part of her childhood too. She spent hours playing with dolls, creating little clothes from bits of cloth, and decorating her Barbie’s town house.
After high school Heather entered Otis College of Art and Design and majored in Fashion Design. In her junior year she transfered to Parsons in Paris and spent the next two years absorbing Parisienne fashion, attending every fashion show she could sneak into, and interning at Cerutti 1881.
Not too long after graduating Heather landed a dream job designing clothes for the doll she had spent so much time playing with as a kid, Barbie! While at Mattel she created everything from the yearly low-priced bathing suit doll for little girls to expensive flights of fancy for the adult collector. Heather’s dolls include those dressed in the most up-to-date fashions and some that were inspired by historical costumes of the world.
Currently Heather runs her own design business creating dolls for a number of toy companies. Her ongoing love of fashion has spilled out into her blog “The Style Confessions™”.
