Fashion has been my passion for as long as I can remember. As a child I spent most of my free time sketching outfits and pinning together scarves to create dress up costumes. I was one of those kids who doodled all over my school notebooks. I was always drawing and dreaming.
Later I entered Otis College of Art and Design and majored in Fashion Design. In my Junior year I transferred to Parsons in Paris and spent the next two years absorbing Parisienne fashion, attending every fashion show possible, and interning at Cerrutti 1881.
Not too long after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in fashion design I landed an amazing job designing clothes for the doll I spent so much time playing with as a kid, Barbie! While at Mattel I created everything from the yearly low-priced bathing suit doll for little girls to expensive flights of fancy for the adult collector. I designed dolls that were dressed in the most up-to-date fashions and some that were inspired by historical costumes.
After leaving Mattel I started my own design business a now work with number of toy companies designing dolls and other girls toys on a freelance basis. You can see my design and fashion illustrations on my portfolio website HeatherFonseca.com.
