Wet N Wild nail polish in Club Havana - The Style Confessions

I was planning a long post for today but I seem to having issues with tendonitis. A new keyboard is pending and will hopefully help the problem but in the meantime I thought I’d share a couple of things. First, I think I’ve found my summer pedicure color of choice. This bright coral color is called Club Havana and it’s by Wet n Wild. The stuff is cheap and tenacious. I love it!

Also in the post is a Pinterest challenge where you can win some new hair products. Next, people are always sending me infographics to share. Normally I don’t, but this one was really cute.  Have a great weekend everyone! Continue Reading →

The Best Sunscreen for the Face (from the drugstore!)

Yes to Carrots daily facial moisturizer

Sunscreen, sunblock, face lotion with SPF, whatever you might call it, this is a necessary part of EVERY woman’s daily routine. Every morning I wash my face, brush my teeth and smooth on a big dollop of sunscreen all over my face. I try to remember to put it on my hands too, but the face is obligatory. I don’t leave home without it. Continue Reading →

My Favorite Revlon Lipsticks

LipsMaybe it’s the wall of colors, 82 in all, that attracts me, or maybe it’s the classic black and gold tube. Maybe it’s the old-fashioned names that tickle my fancy. Whatever the reason Revlon makes my favorite drugstore lipstick. I don’t think another brand manufactures so many colors, and within their vast selection are several shades that look really good on me. Here are seven colors that have become my regular favorites.

Glittery Nails from Sephora X: A Review

One of my favorite gifts is a gift card, and if that gift card gives me a good reason to stop into the wonderful makeup emporium that is Sephora well, that’s even better. For my birthday my Auntie gave me such a gift card, and the first moment I had to spare I ran to the store to see what wonderful goodies they had available.

Upon entering the store I became transfixed by the new line of nail polishes called Sephora X . The display was visually enticing, the colors scrumptuous, and the glitter polishes too beautiful to be true. The colors are arranged in groups that include a lot of gorgeous basics like The New ClassicsThe Sheers, and The New Neutrals. There are some fun brights in a group called The Electrics. Meanwhile, all kinds of shimmer is addressed in several groups including The Prismatics, The CosmicsThe Sparklers, The Industrialists, and The Pearlescents. But the most interesting group is probably The Toppers. Each polish in this group changes the base nail color rather dramatically. The store sales girl told me the polishes were top quality, and that they lasted for days without chipping. How could I say no? Continue Reading →

The Red Lipstick Challenge

Red LipstickBack in January I read the post “How Red Lipstick Taught me to be Brave” on Those Graces. The author challenged herself to wear red lipstick every day for a month.

“In the beginning of the challenge, I was afraid to go out in public with my red lips. There was something unnerving about people staring at me, whether they did it out of judgement or inherent curiosity. But this isn’t a story about strangers, it’s a story about me. I went from being doubting myself every time I wore red lipstick to embracing it entirely. It became apart of who I was, almost like a character trait. I wore it when I was so happy, when I was terribly sad, when I was sick and once accidentally when I was going to the gym.”

My thought on reading her post was “I wear red lipstick all the time!” but then I had to be honest with myself. I love red lipstick and wear it often, but not constantly.  Still, I wanted to see if it felt weird to wear red lipstick every day. So last month I decided to start a red lipstick challenge of my own. I would wear red lipstick daily starting first thing in the morning. I’d reapply it after lunch and any time I walked out the door. How did the experiment go? Keep reading to find out.
