When the BB Cream beauty trend hit a couple years ago I was intrigued. It sounded like tinted moisturizer, one of my all time favorite beauty products, and I’d been trying to find a good tinted moisturizer at the drug store, unsuccessfully, for years. Maybe the BB creams that were hitting the mass market would be the perfect thing for me? I heard that “Beauty Balm” was thicker than tinted moisturizer, and had multiple skin benefits like integrated SPF and antioxidants. Eventually I invested in a tube of Too Faced BB Cream and loved it so much it played a staring roll in this post about my favorite makeup. But then I became fascinated with the original Asian versions of BB cream. The more raves I read about “the real thing” the more I had to try it. Los Angeles has a large Korean-American community and I knew there were a lot of Asian beauty supply stores nearby, so I went out for a day of exploration. After visiting more than four different beauty boutiques and two shopping malls, I found it what I’d been searching for an it was love at first try. The Asian beauty balm by Missha refueled my earlier obsessed and I started testing more of what the American market had to offer. Here are three I really like. One I found at an Korean beauty supply store, one you can find at your local department store beauty counter, and one is from the drugstore.
Walk into any drugstore in the summer months and you will be greeted with a wall of brightly colored bottles and tubes of every kind of sunblock and sunscreen imaginable. It is, in fact, a bit overwhelming. Which ones are good? What SPF is adequate? Is the spray-on sunblock worth the higher cost? Does the wet skin stuff work? What’s the best one for the face? These were the thoughts that ran though my head as I stared at the possibilities available at my local drugstore the week before I left on vacation. My family and I were about to spend a week at the beach and I needed to prepare for seven days of sunshine and salt water. Continue Reading →
Bio-Oil is another wonderful beauty product sent to me by the same people who gave me the Elizabeth Arden products I raved about in this post. I like the Bio-Oil just as much but for different reasons. For one, this softly scented oil is affordable and available at my local drug store. I love the way it smells and the way it makes my skin feel soft and moisturized for hours. Continue Reading →
I’ve written about my struggles with my weak, soft, nails, natural nails in the past. My manicures used to last between a few hours to a couple days before chipping, then I found a polish that didn’t chip immediately and realized that there must be other brands that make long lasting nail polish for natural nails. I have now found what has to be my “Holy Grail” of laquer for soft, weak, nails, and it is not by an expensive company. It’s by Wet N Wild.
I was planning a long post for today but I seem to having issues with tendonitis. A new keyboard is pending and will hopefully help the problem but in the meantime I thought I’d share a couple of things. First, I think I’ve found my summer pedicure color of choice. This bright coral color is called Club Havana and it’s by Wet n Wild. The stuff is cheap and tenacious. I love it!
Also in the post is a Pinterest challenge where you can win some new hair products. Next, people are always sending me infographics to share. Normally I don’t, but this one was really cute. Have a great weekend everyone! Continue Reading →
